Timeless, terrific, taking hold of your heart. This marks a centennial year for the late Tonight Show TV host Johnny Carson, who brought her back for a remarkable record 76 appearances. With overwhelming verve, “she inhabits a song, lives it, and translates any tune in her vast repertoire with depth and meaning, like no other… and this after eight decades in the business,” wrote Marilyn Lester for NightLife Exchange. When she sang 'The Song Is You, “there was no doubt it was a valentine to each and every person in the seats."
Tedd Firth, pianist

HIRSCHFELD'S BROADWAY: Songs and Stories
featuring ERIC COMSTOCK and BARBARA FASANO
hosted by DAVID LEOPOLD, Creative Director of the Al Hirschfeld Foundation.

Al Hirschfeld has been synonymous with Broadway since his first theatre drawing appeared in 1926. For 76 years, his work was as much a part of a Broadway show as its opening night. David Leopold, creative director of the Al Hirschfeld Foundation, teams up with cabaret stars Eric Comstock and Barbara Fasano (“cabaret caviar” – The New York Times / “expert musicianship and joie de vivre in equal measure” – The New Yorker) for a unique evening of songs and stories that highlight Hirschfeld’s contribution to the American Theatre.
See nine decades on Broadway including Oklahoma!, West Side Story, Hello Dolly!, Fiddler on the Roof, Funny Girl, Sweeney Todd, and Chicago through the eyes and the pen of “The Line King.” You will also learn how and why Hirschfeld began to hide his daughter’s name, NINA, is all his drawings, and the “national insanity” that ensued. Comstock and Fasano’s musical performance combined with Leopold’s stories will make the Golden Age of Broadway come alive with a hip, modern sensibility.

Murphy and Maria Abous (“embodiment of a leading lady”). And YOU --in audience singalongs

Mary, Maggy and Marta Moipei are identical triplets from Nairobi, Kenya. They present a program that is as unique as their talents. They interpret some well-known selections from the American Songbook and dazzle with their illuminating take on Broadway, new and old. Throw in a dash of Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman to swing, a flash of pop to provoke, then cash it all in with some gospel for salvation. Add a traditional Swahili folk song to bring it all back home. The exceptional talents of these three sisters blend these music genres to create an amazing, fulfilling and entertaining evening. Guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
