The Moss Ensemble, Marshall Coid (violin/countertenor/composer), Darcy Dunn (mezzo-soprano), Elizabeth Rodgers (piano) and Mary Wooten (cello/piano/composer), is excited to present a concert of classical music that touches on many of the things we hold most dear in our lives – love, spirit, song, dance and, perhaps most importantly, our cats and dogs (and some other interesting animals). The program includes pieces by Beethoven, Handel, Monteverdi, Barber, Faure, Debussy, Piazzolla, Griffiths as well as 3 world premieres by composers Joelle Nager, Mary Wooten and Marshall Coid. ELIZABETH RODGERS, PIANIST

Collaborative pianist ELIZABETH RODGERS holds degrees from the Manhattan School of Music. She is in demand as a recitalist with both instrumentalists and singers, including the distinguished soprano, Judith Raskin, and as a performer of chamber music and orchestral, choral, and operatic repertoire. Ensembles she performs with include Music Under Construction, American Chamber Opera, American Landmark Festivals, New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players, and the Moss Ensemble.

A strong advocate of performing works by living composers, Elizabeth has played and premiered works by Miriam Gideon, Robert Dennis, Wendy Griffiths, Joelle Wallach, Tom Addison, Carolyn Lord, Justine Chen, Melissa Shiflett, and Douglas Anderson.

Ms. Rodgers has recorded for the PARMA, Opus 1, Grenadilla, CRI, Musical Heritage, New World, Albany, and Arabesque labels. Her recent solo album, Views From the Keyboard—Piano Music by Wendy Griffiths, is available on Apple Music and Spotify.

MARSHALL COID, VIOLINIST

MARSHALL COID, of Andes/NYC, has been described by The New York Times as "astonishingly versatile" for his multidisciplinary career as a violinist, counter-tenor, actor, director, conductor, composer, writer, and educator. Since graduating from The Juilliard School, he has been featured in Live TV Broadcasts from the Kennedy Center and Lincoln Center and has appeared as a soloist at the United Nations, Library of Congress, National Cathedral (DC), Cathedral of St. John The Divine (Artist-in Residence 1990-1996), MOMA, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Morgan Library, Guggenheim Museum, Steppenwolf Theatre, Spoleto Festival USA/Italy, Oxford University, International Performers Festival (Belgium), and more. Four decades on Broadway include roles in Barnum (where he played violin on the high wire), Ghetto, Rags (six characters), and Chicago (onstage violin soloist since 1996). His long collaboration with the late Mimi Stern Wolfe’s Downtown Music Productions culminated in a 2019 NY Philharmonic recital performance curated by Academy Award-winning composer, John Corigliano. Marshall's award-winning music for film, dance, opera, concert, and theater has received critical acclaim since the 1980s.

MARY WOOTEN, CELLIST

New York City-based cellist MARY WOOTEN moves with agility among the musical genres of classical performance, jazz & pop improv, commercial recording, and adventures in the avant-garde. A founding member of the Soldier and Sirius string quartets, Ms. Wooten is a pioneer who helped propel the classical string world toward new ventures in improvisation and electronically-altered instruments. As quartet cellist she has premiered new music at Lincoln Center, Minneapolis’ Walker Art Center, the LA County Museum of Art, and on John Shaffer’s New Sounds series for NPR. Her collaborations with contemporary composers such as John Zorn, Elliot Sharp, Richard Einhorn, and Douglas Cuomo have culminated in concerts at new music locales and jazz festivals in New York, Montreal, Amsterdam, Vienna, Cologne, Berlin, and Tokyo. Mary works with many popular singers, plays in Broadway orchestras, and has performed as onstage solo cellist in various theatrical productions, including the New York Shakespeare Festival with Meryl Streep. Her studio credits include many TV commercials, movie soundtracks, and recordings with artists David Bowie, Billy Joel, Sheryl Crow, Joe Jackson, Marianne Faithfull, Jane Siberry, Phil Woods, Kenny Werner, Jane Ira Bloom, among others.

DARCY DUNN, SINGER

DARCY DUNN sings chamber opera, classical music, and new works in NYC, and is a founding member and featured performer of the Magic Circle Opera, as well as a graduate of Magic Circle training under Ray Evans Harrell. She has performed leading roles with Chelsea Opera, Bronx Opera, Encompass Opera, Opera Manhattan, and Downtown Music Productions, and has been a featured soloist at the Windham Chamber Music Festival. With her husband, baritone Mark Singer, and pianist/musical director Julia Mendelsohn, Darcy helped create the Catskill Mountain Foundation’s “Mountaintop Celebration of Song” in Hunter, NY, where their original productions included A Little Bit in Love, Headliners and One-Liners, Weill’d About You, They’re Playing Your Song, and Ain’t We Got Fun. Darcy and Mark, fresh off a revival of their Catskills show, will appear at LTV Studios on November 2, 2024, in a reading of a new show by Mark entitled "All Mankind Has Lost Its Reason," about the rise of fascism in Weimar, Germany, featuring music of the era.
